Literacy is a critical foundation for all learning and serves as a “keystone” for opportunity and success. Ensuring student success requires much more than an effective literacy materials for reading and writing. This learning path will focus on the key skills and components of literacy development every child needs to be successful.
Learning Path Outcomes:
- Identify, articulate, and reflect upon the key components of early literacy development; including oral language, phonological awareness, phonics, orthography, vocabulary, comprehension, and writing;
- Identify the critical components of an effective literacy environment;
- Utilize and navigate the Standards-Aligned System and the PA Comprehensive Literacy Plan as tools to support literacy instruction; and
- Develop a connection between the components; including oral language, phonological awareness, phonics, orthography, vocabulary, comprehension and writing needed for effective literacy instruction and the environment to support the development of those skills.
